HDFC Bank Limited is an Indian banking and financial services company headquartered in Mumbai. Incorporated in August 1994, it officially commenced operations in January 1995 upon receiving its banking license from Reserve Bank of India. It is India's largest private sector bank by assets and market capitalisation. In 2025 HDFC became the 10th largest bank in the world by market capitalisation. As of 2026, HDFC is the first out of the 10 most valuable banks in India.
The Reserve Bank of India has identified the HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, and ICICI Bank as Domestic Systemically Important Banks, which are often referred to as banks that are “too big to fail”.
As of April 2026, HDFC Bank has a market capitalization of $137.15 billion. And as of April 2024, HDFC Bank has a market capitalization of $145 billion making it the third-largest company on the Indian stock exchanges.
