It was spun out of HCL Group in 1991 when HCL entered into the software services business. Founded by Shiv Nadar, the company has presence in 60 countries and over 223,000 employees. It is the third-largest India-headquartered IT services company by revenue and market capitalization. The company unveiled its brand identity "HCLTech", underpinned by the distinct positioning of Supercharging Progress™, in 2022.
HCLTech was named as the highest-ranked India-headquartered technology company for the second consecutive year in TIME magazine's World’s Best Companies list in 2025. It has also been included in TIME's World's Most Sustainable Companies list for the second consecutive year in 2026, placing it among the top five global professional companies.
